Waves, Wind, Interferences
Installation with a self generating musical piece
“Waves, wind, interferences” is an interactive sound installation that engages the user in the real time generation of a musical piece, which is based on a mixture of dualities, such as analog/digital and mechanic/organic. The theme of the piece is the wind.
The installation is composed by three different prepared ventilators. Two of these ventilators have speakers mounted on their back grills. Two speakers randomly play different chords from the composition, in different durations. The other ventilator is in front of a wind chime, adding a percussive element. The ventilators are turned on by blowing through tube like devices. The ventilators also turn on by themselves for short moments.
When the ventilators are turned on, they cause a physical interference that alters the digital component: the sound. The resulting effect resembles an oscillating filter. A dialog is created between the physical action of blowing air and the wind generated by mechanical means(the ventilator). The user and the machine are both players in this piece.
