Verbindung

Multimedia interactive performance of a musical composition through dance

Intuitive music is a term coined by Karlheinz Stockhausen. It refers to musical compositions made up of rules and/or principles or a lack of them. “Aus Den Sieben Tagen” was a group of compositions based around this idea. Each piece consisted of a series of instructions with the idea of constructing a connection between the performer and the present moment.

This performance is an interpretation of “Verbindung”, one of the compositions of ADST. Through the use of an electronic instrument called Kinesound, consisting of a mobile phone attached to the dancers’ arm, his movements are translated into music in real time and also control the accompanying graphics on screen. Off screen, another performer assists in the modification of the sonic textures.

The choreographer becomes the performer of a musical composition through the use of his body, creating a musical piece that defies the boundaries between musician/dancer/composer/performer.

This project was one of the results of my Masters’ thesis: Kinesound. The aforementioned musical instrument.

A teaser of the video was shown in the 2016 edition of SismÒFFgraf Olot

The performance was also performed live at Octubre Centre de Cultura Contemporània (Valencia) in 2016.
